Thousands of school children will read Gus Gordon’s picture book Herman and Rosie (Viking) during Read for Australia, a nation-wide reading event to be held during National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW) in July.

Read for Australia encourages school students across the country to read the same book simultaneously at 2pm on Wednesday 31 July.

CLASSIC FICTION: Pattern Recognition - William Gibson
Guest Lauren Beukes brings along this classic by sci-fi legend William Gibson. Part detective story, part thriller, this is the first of Gibson’s books to be set in the contemporary world. 'Coolhunter' Cayce Pollard is on a mission to find the maker of a mysterious film circulating on the internet. National Simultaneous Storytime is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 13th successful year it is a colourful, vibrant and fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy using an Australian children's book that explores age appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Grades 1 to 6.

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
